Friends Doing Things.
I spent the last day of September 2024 switching between doing job applications, reading a book, scrolling through my phone and a bit of chores. Despite being caught up in these things, it was one of those days in which I find myself thinking about life from a broader perspective, days when you pull yourself out of the quotidian things in life and look at the bigger picture. And amid the plethora of thoughts that went through my mind, the idea of 'Friends Doing Things' was born.
They say ideas come and disappear in the blink of an eye - so I wrote everything down, more like my thoughts demanded to be penned down, they occupied my mind with so much clarity.
The description in my Notes App was something like :'I want to create a vibrant community where people do fun activities together and make meaningful friendships while at it' - and that is all about it in a nutshell. There are detailed posters on the 'Friends Doing Things' Instagram page about the whole plan, my why and other nitty-gritties.
So after writing my thoughts down, I shared screenshots with some of my friends and the reception blew my mind, totally! These were some of their responses:
Say wow! Other opinions and comments happened over phone calls and in person. You have no idea how much I smiled that day. I wasn't expecting all the book-worthy compliments and comments that I got. And I didn't even know how much some of my friends needed a community like this.
Fueled by the positivity that had me teary, I started creating posters. I am not a pro with canva but that night, my skills improved by a large extent. I knew I had to figure out my way around everything because canva skills come in handy in so many ways. By the time I went to bed, I had designed this:
On 1st October, which is obviously a special date in my calendar now, I did what needed to be done - creating a WhatsApp group and an Instagram page, designing posters and posting them, and basically being in awe of the power of the human mind - it's capable of so much!
And this, dear reader, is to remind you that there is so much beauty in good friendships, invest in them!
To remind you to actualize your ideas, cause you never know how much the people around you need them. The world needs your ideas!
To remind you to not be afraid of committing to long-term plans just because you haven't figured everything out, I am doing just that.
...
We will be meeting up twice a month and I will be writing about our experiences on a monthly basis. That means I am like two posts late because our 4th meet up is happening tomorrow (24th November).
See you in a minute!
